Judoka Denis Vieru has won a silver medal at the Grand Slam held in Baku, IPN reports.
The 25-year-old athlete beat Mongolia’s Narmandakh Bayanmunkh, Georgia’s Bagrati Niniashvili and Japan’s Ryoma Tanaka, being defeated only by Orkhan Safarov of Azerbaijan in the final of the 66 kg weight class.
Moldovan judokas also competed in the Under 23 European Judo Championships in Budapest. Radu Izvoreanu and Adil Osmanov climbed on to the winner’s rostrum. Izvoreanu won silver in the 66 kg class, while Osmanov medalled bronze in the 73 kg class.
