The Ciocana branch of the Chisinau City Court decided to transfer the MPs of the Shor Party Denis Ulanov and Petru Jardan from arrest under judicial control for 30 days. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office asked that the two should be remanded in custody for 30 days and intends to challenge the decision as illegal, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the request concerning Petru Jardan was examined in the absence of the MP as this refused to appear before the judges.
In a press release, the Shor Party said that it took note of the court’s decision to reject the prosecutor’s request. “We are glad that the judges in parts place the law at the forefront. This is a first step towards proving their innocence. Moreover, the court’s decision shows how subtle and senseless prosecutors’ accusations are,” stated the party.
Denis Ulanov is accused of “swindle” and “money laundering” in the bank fraud case, while Petru Jardan is accused of “abuse of power” in the concession of the Chisinau International Airport. The two MPs plead not guilty. They were arrested on March 22 after their parliamentary immunity was lifted at the request of Proctor General Alexandr Stoianoglo.
