Denis Balaur finished seventh at the European Freestyle Wrestling Championships that are taking place in Serbia. The athlete from Calarasi made his debut at a competition of such a scale, IPN reports.
The pupil of coach Constantin Cobilean this year has become national champion in the 86 kg class.
Moldovan wrestler Alexandru Chirtoaca ranked 11th in the 57 kg class. The national freestyle wrestling team also includes Andrei Perpelita (61 kg), Maxim Perpelita (65 kg), Mihail Sava (70 kg), Yevgheny Nedealko (74 kg), Nicolae Ceban (97 kg) and Andrei Romanov (125 kg).
The Greco-Roman wrestling competition will involve Donior Islamov (59 kg), Valentin Petic (66 kg), Valeriu Todercan (71 kg) and Daniel Cataraga (75 kg) as well as Iulia Leorda (53 kg), Mariana Cherdivara-Esanu (58 kg) and Svetlana Saenko (75 kg). The European Championships close on May 7.
