The Democratic Party’s candidate Pădure Svetlana was elected mayor in the runoffs rerun in Călinești village of Fălești district on March 8. Svetlana Pădure emerged victorious after winning by 21 more votes than her opponent Eduard Curtescu, of the ACUM Electoral Bloc, IPN reports.
The Central Election Commission said the elections involved over 2,000 electors and the voter turnout was of 46.98%. The Democratic Party’s candidate gained 519 votes, while the candidate of the Electoral Bloc ACUM, Platform DA and PAS – 498 votes. The data remain preliminary until the lower electoral bodies present the required documents in the original.
The runoffs were rerun by decision of the Central Election Commission after the Bălți Appeals Court and the Supreme Court of Justice invalidated the results of the mayoral elections held in Călinești on November 3, 2019.
