The chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Marian Lupu is the party’s candidate for the October 30 presidential elections. Such a decision was taken in a meeting of the PDM’s National Political Council on August 31, IPN reports.
After the meeting, the party’s president of honor Dumitru Diacov said that the Council discussed the nomination of Marian Lupu for President. He noted that his colleague is a balanced person with experience, who has been present on the Moldovan political arena during the last few years, and who has a better position than the already announced candidates.
Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, who is the deputy chairman of the PDM, said the decision was taken unanimously and the party couldn’t have taken another decision, while the party’s chairman can assume this responsibility. “It is a struggle that we assume as a team,” stated the politician.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who is also a member of the PDM, said it was an appropriate and correct decision for the party’s leader to be fielded for President of Moldova. He noted that Marian Lupu is a known person and everyone knows his human qualities and qualities of politician. He added that the development partners said the Republic of Moldova needs stability to complete the initiated reforms.
Seven candidates for President were announced on August 31. These are: Igor Dodon (PSRM), Marian Lupu (PDM), Mihai Ghimpu (PL), Iurie Leanca (PPEM), Dmitri Chubashenko (PPPN), Maia Sandu (PAS) and Andrei Nastase (PPDA).
