The Democratic Party (PDM) considers that the Communist symbols – the hammer and sickle – cannot be banned, as the parliamentary commission for studying the totalitarian Communist regime Moldova recommended. In a communique, the party says it is against taking immediate decisions on the basis of the conclusions and recommendations of the commission, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We think that a pause should be now taken as there are more important problems that need to be dealt with. The recommendations made by the 'Cojocaru commission' would lead to the division of the society and worsening of the social and economic situation,” it is said in the communique. “Now that the early legislative elections are inevitable, the wish to sign the commission's recommendations into law could be regarded as attempt to remove an electoral opponent -the PCRM. In a democratic society, such a move is inadmissible.” The party headed by Marian Lupu says the Parliament should return to the commission's conclusions and report after the early legislative elections. It also considers there is no need to set up a new commission that will assess the damage caused while the Communists ruled the country as there is no one that could now pay that 'bill'.
