Moldovan is the official language of Moldova and Russian should be taught in schools as a mandatory subject, the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said in the program
“Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
Marian Lupu said the notion of Romanian language is propagated excessively and thus the people’s right to choose their identity is infringed. “We see writing on fences, walls and inside blocks, saying ‘Moldovans means Romanians’, or ‘If we speak Romanian, we are Romanians’. I’m annoyed by such a thing because this is an ideological aspect already. I foresee a move in three stages. It is ideological pressure. The language is the first stage. Afterward, if we are all Romanians, there is the theory of two Romanian states. And the last stage – if there are two Romanian states, why should there be two states? We do not accept extremist things. The left extreme and the right extreme do not allow the people to choose. Those from the right extreme say: You do not know who you are; we are all Romanians. The same is done on the left extreme. We have a civilized approach,” he stated.
He added that a large part of the members of the PDM consider that they speak Romanian and this is their right as they are free to choose their identity.
Marian Lupu also said that they are against removing Russian from the list of compulsory school subjects. “I think three mandatory foreign languages shroud be studied in schools: English, French, and Russian,” he stated.
The leader of the PDM also does not agree with the name of history. “We proposed that the History of Moldova subject should be included in the Education Code, in the context of the Universal History. It’s not right to name this subject History of Romanians. Did you hear somewhere that they study the history of the French people?” he asked.
In the same program, Marian Lupu said that the PDM is a center-left party, while centrism in Moldova is equal to Moldovenism, but with modern European Moldovenism.
