The leader of the National Liberal Party of Moldova (PNL) Vitalia Pavlichenko said the Democratic government must make everything possible to prevent the Communists Party (PCRM) from profiting from the economic situation. In a news conference centering on the 100 days in office of the Liberal-Democratic government, which was held at Info-Prim Neo, she spoke about the reasons why the PCRM, PD and PLDM want early elections, while the PL and AMN do not.
Vitalia Pavlichenko considers that the PCRM wants early elections in order to take revenge, while the PD – because it obtained no important post though its leader is supported by most of the people. As to the PLDM, it strengthens its position at local level and has all the chances to garner more votes. For its part, the PL does not want early elections as it holds two key posts and hurries to achieve as many of its objectives as possible, while the AMN is breaking up and would not be able to cope with the elections.
The PL leader said such positions should not be criticized, but considers that the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) should do its utmost so as not to allow the PCRM to profit from the economic situation.
Analyzing the 100 workdays of the Liberal-Democratic government, the PNL said they welcome Premier Vlad Filat's position on the role of the Opposition, which, according to him, must do its job and be attentive to the mistakes committed by the Government. At the same time, Vitalia Pavlichenko said the PNL is in opposition to the present government as it does not form part of the administration, but it is a constructive opposition as they have the same objectives and aspirations.
“The PNL considers that the new executive refuted Communists' assertions that the new power is unable to govern,” Vitalia Pavlichenko said. “The people are overcoming the fear related to the change of power, but still fear that the Communists could return to power.”
The PNL welcomed the decree to set up the commission for studying the crimes committed by the Communist regime, the improvement in the relations with Romania, the EU, the IMF, the WB, the EBRD and the EIB, the visits paid by the senior authorities to the EU and the U.S., the improvement of the business environment, the allocation of 250 million lei in agricultural subsidies, the liberalization of the system for fulfilling court decisions and the public-private partnership for decentralizing the state power.
The National-Liberals consider yet that the member parties of the AEI should coordinate their positions on different issues. “The immediate political objectives of the Alliance should be set out clearly,” Pavlichenko said.
“An analysis center is needed to collect the opinions expressed in the press, at programs and conferees, the political statements about the wrongdoings that the competent bodies must deal with.”
Among the suggestions made by the PNL are: to demolish the Communist symbols and monuments to Lenin in districts, to hold accountable of the Communist clan, to hasten the investigation of the April events, to determine the property owned by the new governors, to fight corruption, to provide nominal compensations to socially deprived groups of people, and others.
The mayor of Cantemir Mihai Creanga, who is a member of the PNL, said they saw yet no changes at district level. “The people pay taxes that are higher than their incomes,” he said.
In the end, Vitalia Pavlichenko said the success of the present government depends on the creation of a middle class on which the state would be based.
