The Democratic Party requested the Briceni local office to initiate the statutory procedures for excluding local councilor Iurie Groza, who struck fatally a child by his car on a road in Corjeuti village and didn’t stop to help, from the party, IPN reports.

“The case of Iurie Groza from Briceni is regrettable. The PDM firmly condemns such behavior, both before the accident, when Mister Groza decided to drive while being inebriated, and the leaving of the place of the accident,” the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc stated in the weekly briefing of the party.

The accident happened in the evening of February 25 in Corjeuti village of Briceni district. The 32-year-old inebriated councilor hit a child aged seven while this was walking by the roadside together with his mother. The woman wasn’t hurt, but the child died on the way to the hospital. The hit-and-run driver was identified shortly afterward. Tests showed he was heavily inebriated.
