Democratic Action Party intends to initiate referendum

The Democratic Action Party (PAD) intends to hold a constitutional referendum in the near future to change the political system, as decided at the meeting of the Party's National Political Council on Saturday, Info-Prim Neo reports. By initiating what it calls the Referendum of Responsibility, the PAD aims to introduce a mixed electoral system, to reduce the number of MPs from 101 to 71 and to offer people the right to vote the President of Moldova directly. “It is our firm belief that the direct election of the head of state, the introduction of the a mixed electoral system for the election of Parliament, together with the reduction of the number of deputies, represent a real basis for the democratization of parties and for the increased responsibility of our country's political class” the Party's resolution says.
