The Movement “Democratia Acasa” (DA) [“Democracy at Home”] demands that the head of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC) Viorel Chetraru should tender his resignation as he told Premier Vlad Filat on his birthday to be sure that he has a team of lads behind that will beat everyone if necessary, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on May 11, DA member Maria Diminet said Viorel Chetraru's statement showed the CCCEC is only an instrument of pressure that does not fight corruption, but struggles with unsuitable persons. “This way, no person in Moldova can feel safe as they can be beaten at any moment,” Maria Diminet said, adding that “the good lads should resign together with their boss, Viorel Chetraru.” Vasile Costiuc, another member of the DA, said he does not understand why the present government did not liquidate the CCCEC, which fulfills duties performed by other institutions as well. “Maybe they realized it is a profitable institution, a convenient Ltd.,” Vasile Costiuc presumed. He also said that Viorel Chetraru, who is a good specialist, presented himself dishonorably when he congratulated the Premier. “Viorel Chetraru should apologize publicly and hand in his resignation,” Vasile Costiuc said, expressing his bewilderment at the fact that the society and the journalists did not react. He said they are convinced that the government will not admonish Chetraru. Therefore, the Movement “Democratia Acasa” decided to insist that Chetraru resign. After the news conference, a number of members of the Movement went to the head office of the CCCEC to stage a peaceful protest and give the employees of the Center a pair of boxing gloves and a helmet.
