The Democrat Party (PD) will propose Vladimir Filat, deputy chairman of the PD parliamentary faction, for the office of General Mayor of Chisinau Municipality. This was announced on Wednesday, February 7, by the head of the party, Dumitru Diacov, at a press conference held on the occasion of 10th anniversary of the Democrat Party’s activity. Diacov said that several days ago the political bureau of PD decided to propose the candidature of Vladimir Filat for the elections of the capital’s mayor. Diacov hopes that, given the situation created in the city, this candidate will be the most corresponding one. “Despite his young age, Filat accumulated rich experience in state bodies, government and Parliament. “We are available to discuss with any other party which would be interested in supporting this candidate”, PD leader added. Diacov also stated that his party is preparing, rather actively, for the local polls and hopes to place at least 2nd. At the same press conference Vladimir Filat stated that he has the necessary knowledge and experience “in order to assure good management” in Chisinau. “PD runs for the capital not for accumulating experience or satisfy its political ambitions”, he stated. General local elections are to be held in Moldova in May-June, 2007.
