The unionist activists who will run in the parliamentary elections on the ticket of the Party “Democracy at Home” with the UNION emblem announced that they will file the list of candidates for MP in the national constituency to the Central Election Commission on January 21.

In a news conference at IPN, Ion Leashchenko, one of the candidates, said the list includes 40 persons who are known as sincere and well-intentioned unionists. None of the candidates held administrative public posts. They continue to collect signatures in favor of the four candidates of the Party “Democracy at Home” in single-member constituency and the lists with signatures during the next few days will be presented to the district electoral councils for the candidates to be registered as electoral contenders.

“Democracy at Home” president Vasile Costiuc said the newly formed team is morally and intellectually prepared to compete in the parliamentary elections. It has all the energy and force needed to enter Parliament and to achieve the Romanian and European cause. The current government limits the constitutional right to run in elections by new rules of the game. The obligations to personally submit the file for running in elections and to obtain an integrity certificate are among the barriers. Obstacles to the electoral competitors are also placed by the National Integrity Authority that deliberately delays the issuing of integrity certificates to potential candidates. As a result, those who decide to become involved in elections later do not manage to go through all the procedures for being registered as electoral contenders.

Folk music singer Zinaida Bolboceanu, who will run on behalf of the Party “Democracy at Home” in Căușeni constituency, said she decided to run for MP in order to correct a historic mistake and to support the young people who struggle for the union ideal.

Anatol Ursu, candidate on behalf of the Party “Democracy at Home” in Ialoveni constituency, noted that he managed to collect over 500 signatures, but will yet collect more signatures so as to be sure he will be registered as an election runner. The Ialoveni constituency supports the union ideal and the people will therefore have a unionist candidate in this constituency.
