The demand of skilled workers exceeds by far the supply available in Chisinau. Sources from the Municipal Employment Agency say that this tendency became more visible in recent years.
At present, employers need such qualified labourers as construction tradesmen and drivers. Garment labourers are also quite solicited, with 200 vacancies registered at the Agency.
Deputy-head of the Agency Svetlana Sarban says that there are no persons willing to take these jobs at present because they are working abroad and are being paid better. The wage of a garment worker is MDL 1500 to 2500, depending on the qualification.
According to experts, the quality of the labour force in these fields has dropped during the last few years. Young people do not want to learn these trades because they do not consider them prestigious. About 12 thousand vacancies were registered at the Agency last year, being employed about 3 thousand persons. The persons who are officially registered as unemployed benefit from an allowance of MDL 500-800 for a 12-month period at most.
During the last few years, more and more persons solicit professional instruction, especially for technical occupations, Nicolae Grumeza, teacher at the “INMACOM-Didactic” Instruction Centre says. According to the cited source there are cases when teachers with higher education re-qualified into crane operators.
The Agency is currently organising a Job Fair within “Made in Moldova” National Exhibition. Companies and professional and vocational education institutions which participate in the exhibition propose 4 thousand vacancies.
