The judgement in the case “Heroin – 200 kg”, in which four men were convicted, became final. The Supreme Court of Justice rejected as inadmissible the appeals declared by culprits Corneliu Savca, Dumitru Moiseev, Murat Hamza Karalar and Murat Cernit and their lawyers, the judgement passed by the Chisinau Court of Appeals becoming thus irrevocable, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, by its judgment of November 28, 2017 the Chisinau Court of Appeals sentenced Corneliu Savca to 14 years in jail and banned this from performing a particular activity for a period of ten years. Dumitru Moiseev got three years and was banned from holding responsible posts in the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior for a five-year period.

Murat Karalar was sentenced to 13 years behind bars and banned from performing a particular activity for a period of five years, while Akbulut Cerkez got eight years and a ban on performing a particular activity for a period of five years. The court also ordered that the corpus delicti – 20 sacks with 200 kg of heroin – should be destroyed.

On March 20, 2008, two traffic police inspectors found briquettes of heroin hidden in sacks of beans in a vehicle in central Chisinau. The car was driven by Turkish citizen Murat Karalar and the drugs, assessed at about 10 million lei, were to be taken to a storehouse in Vatra town for being packed and exported. The police arrested two citizens of Turkey and four police officers who were accused of protecting the “business”.
