The Moldovan Ministry of Defense has drafted a short- and medium-term plan of measures based on four major objectives, Info-Prim Neo reports. “These objectives include, in particular, support for the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, reform of the national defense system, and maintenance of capabilities for countering military risks and threats endangering the security of Moldova”, said Defense Ministry Vitalie Marinuta, in a press release from MoD. “Additionally, the National Army will seek to become a contributor to the regional and international security by taking part in international stabilization and peacekeeping missions”, he added. Foreign assistance will play a major role in implementing these objectives, as MoD will intensify international cooperation to obtain assistance in the form of expert advice, training and equipment, it was said in the press release. General Staff director Col. Iurie Dominic said the reform of the national defense system will be based on measures aimed at developing interoperability of the command and control system of the National Army with similar systems of Western countries and at optimizing the use of human, material and financial resources available.
