Moldova's Declaration of Independence will be restored on April 26, not April 17 as it has been initially announced. The reason for the delay is that the Parliament has not yet adopted the legal framework for performing the given procedure and because many officials will leave for Warsaw on April 17 to take part in the funeral of Poland President Lech Kaczynski, the head of the association “Parlamentul '90” Pantelei Sandulachi told a news conference on April 15, Info-Prim Neo reports. On April 23, the MPs will come together for a meeting to adopt a document to restore the Declaration of Independence. “We consider that the voting results should be published in the press,” Pantelei Sandulachi said. In the same meeting, the MPs will adopt a bill to institute the National Flag Day (April 27) and to restore the old name of the August 27 holiday – the Independence Day. Now it is called the Republic's Day. Anatol Taranu, a member of the first Parliament, expressed his concern that the April 23 meeting could be boycotted. “We possess information that steps are being taken to hinder this meeting. On April 23, we will see who indeed supports the statehood. Those who will not vote in favor of restoring the Declaration of Independence will thus deny the existence of the Moldovan state. I'm sure that most of the MPs will fulfill their obligations to this state and the people,” said Doctor of History Anatol Taranu. Only 230 of the 278 members of the first Parliament, who signed the Declaration of Independence, are now alive.
