The Parliament agreed the procedure for restoring Moldova's Declaration of Independence. The festive sitting where the Declaration will be signed will take place on April 26. It will be attended by the members of the first legislative body as well, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At the April 23 sitting, Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu, who was also a member of the first legislature of Moldova, said only 230 of the 278 MPs who signed the Declaration of Independence are now alive. The signatures of the late MPs will be scanned.
The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration confirmed that their parliamentary groups will attend the festive meeting and will vote for the Declaration.
Unaffiliated MP Victor Stepaniuc, vice president of the United Moldova Party, said he does not agree with this project. “We should not set such precedents in Moldova. This is a confusing step for the jurists, the public opinion, the politicians. A part of the MPs will put their signatures, while the signatures of the others will be scanned,” he said.
The unaffiliated MP representing the European Action Movement Iurie Colesnic assured Victor Stepaniuc that no mistake will be committed on April 26 as the document will be only restored. Ion Plesca, the chairman of the legal commission for appointments and immunity, said the Parliament's regulations envision the restoration of exceptional legislative documents.
The former head of state Vladimir Voronin, the leader of the Communists Party, said recently that it would be a stupidity to restore this document. “Voronin will regret this assertion and will answer according to the law,” commented Pantelei Sandulachi, the head of the Association “Parlamentul 90”.
The original of the Declaration of Independence burned during the April 7, 2009 events. The Prosecutor General's Office launched an investigation into this case.
