The decision to shoot animals without masters, which was taken by the Bobeica Local Council, is illegal and outrageous, said Sergiu Lazarenco, deputy mayor of Stăuceni commune of Chisinau municipality where a project to control the number of animals was implemented in concert with a German partner and the animals there are sterilized and vaccinated against rabies.

“The project is not yet over as dogs from other villages are brought to us and locals still complain that they are attacked by stray dogs. In the future, we plan to erect an animal shelter in Stăuceni. We are now having public consultations on the issue and the final decision as to the building of the shelter will be taken by the Stăuceni Local Council. We promote the idea that all the suburban localities of the musicality of Chisinau and not only should implement such projects,” Sergiu Lazarenco stated for IPN.

The Bobeica Local Council on December 16 decided that the number of harmful animals and prey birds, including stray dogs and cats, will be regulated as from January 1 and until the end of the year. This will be done by groups of up to 15 hunters. The bodies of animals will be buried. Contacted by IPN, the mayor of Bobeica Liliana Musteață was unsalable for comment.

The president of the Political Party for People, Nature and Animals Ion Dron in a news conference at IPN stated that the Bobeica Local Council, by its decision to shoot cats and dogs without owners, intends to commit an offense and requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate the given case.
