The decision to resume the official talks will lead to a peaceful, comprehensive and lasting settlement of the Transnistria conflict, considers Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I warmly welcome the decision of the “5+2” negotiating format, taken this morning in Moscow, to resume official negotiations disrupted in February 2006. This is an important step towards a peaceful, comprehensive and lasting settlement of the Transnistria conflict. We are now looking forward to a negotiating process in which all the parties involved in the “5+2” will act in good faith and in a spirit of cooperation. As part of the "5+2" negotiating format, the EU expects the next, official meeting to take place at the earliest possible date, and reaffirms its readiness to assist the conflict sides in both the negotiations and the implementation of a settlement,” Catherine Ashton says in a statement issued on September 22. The decision to renew the official negotiations was taken in a round of informal consultations held in Moscow on September 22.
