The court decision by which Pavel Eni was reinstated as director of St Lazarus Cemetery of Chisinau was challenged. In the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services, Ludmila Boțan, director of the municipal funeral services company, said the February 18 judgment by which the Ciocana branch of the Chisinau City Court annuls their company’s order to suspend Pavel Eni from post has been already disputed in the Appeals Court, IPN reports.
Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said that even if there is the presumption of innocence, three are images showing how the involved people divide the money paid for places in the cemetery between them. “I ask you to do your best so that this person no longer serves in the units subordinated to the company you manage,” said Ion Ceban, addressing Ludmila Boțan.
It is presumed that the unjust enrichment scheme by which burial places at the cemetery were distributed illegally involved the cemetery head, his deputy, the accountant and other administration members who were charged on 142 counts. The National Anticorruption Center said that over half a million lei was collected by this scheme during three months alone. Besides the state tax of 1,051 lei for a burial place, the group members levied additional payments that could rise to 5,000 or even 7,000 lei. Those who wanted to reserve a place at the cemetery for the family or relatives had to pay twice more than the state tax of 4,612 lei.
