A contingent of 11 Moldova soldiers will participate in the post-conflict operation in Iraq. Parliament adopted this decision in a secret sitting, which took place on Thursday, April 5.
Iurie Stoicov, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for National Security, Defence and Public Order asked that this project be discussed in a closed meeting.
After the approval of the project, Stoicov told the press that according to the decision, 11 Moldovan officers, of which 8 sappers and 3 soldiers who will serve in the General Staff of Multinational Forces Commandment, will go to Iraq for a period of 6 months. Stoicov said that he does not know the date of the departure.
Asked by reporters, several MPs avoided answering why this issue was examined in a secret sitting, in light of the fact that the previous decisions on the participation of Moldovan militaries in Iraq were public.
This is the fifth contingent of Moldovan militaries to participate in military operations in Iraq. 76 Moldovan militaries participated in these operations so far.
