Decision makers of “Edilitate” investigated for abuse of power

Decision makers of the municipal company “Edilitate” SA are investigated by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. Councilor Teo Carnat told a news conference on Friday that using dubious contracts, they caused damage of over 15 million lei to the Chisinau budget, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It was reached the conclusion that decision makers of “Edilitate” SA committed illegalities as they used their authority in their own interests,” stated Teo Carnat. He said that the investigated decision makers include the company’s head Anatoli Gorbunov, acting head Ion Nanu, and one of the shareholders. A number of dubious contracts were used, including a contract for the hiring of asphalt production technology. It is yet to be established who and what role played in signing these contracts. According to Teo Carnat, the signing of such dubious contracts causes damage to the local budget. The performed investigations should be a warning for the managers of other municipal companies. Inspections will be carried out at other municipal companies to prevent such situations. The investigated officials face a fine of 3 000 to 8 000 lei or up to three years in jail. They will be also banned from holding certain posts or carrying out certain activities for a period of up to five years. Anatoli Gorbunov and Ion Nanu were unavailable for comment.
