The walls of the building of the National Philharmonic will be examined from technical viewpoint during the next few days. Depending on the results, a decision as to the restoration or demolition of the Philharmonic will be taken. If it’s decided to demolish the building, the works will be executed until winter. Such decisions were taken in a meeting convoked on September 25, IPN reports.

General Inspectorate for Emergencies head Mihail Harabagiu said measures to remove the existing danger are being taken and the remaining goods, accounting documents and library collections are being relocated.

It was decided that the artistic staff of the National Philharmonic will work in temporary accommodations that also have a rehearsals hall. If need be, there will be analyzed the possibility of performing rehearsals in one of the halls of the Palace of the Republic.

Contacted by IPN, National Philharmonic director Svetlana Bivol said that the institution’s staff was told where they will continue work and will have rehearsals and where the costumes and instruments will be taken to. They anticipate the orchestras will have to rehearse in other halls during at least two years.

The General Inspectorate for Emergencies presented the preliminary causes of fire – a fault in the electrical equipment, a short circuit and non-observance of the anti-fire rules when cutting metal during pipe welding works.
