Death penalty in PACE agenda

A delegation of the Parliament of Moldova is taking part in the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which will discuss the death penalty in the Council of Europe member states and the countries with the status of observer. The discussions will end with a statement by Federico Mayor Zaragoza, who heads the International Commission against the Dearth Penalty, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the legislature’s press service. The first issue in the agenda is the religious dimension of the intercultural dialogue. A number of religious personalities will deliver speeches, including Romania’s Patriarch Daniel, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in Vatican, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar, and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany Bernhard Felmberg. The agenda also includes debates on the honoring of Georgia’s obligations and commitments to the Council of Europe, the right to vote of persons aged 16, the situation of rural women in Europe, education against violence in education institutions and others. The Moldovan delegation is headed by MP Ana Gutu. It also consists of lawmakers Stella Jantuan, Valeriu Ghiletski and Grigore Petrenco. The session is taking place in Strasbourg between April 11 and 16.
