By December 1, the acting Prosecutor General must submit the report on the investigation of the looting of the banking system. The Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on National Security, Defense and Public Order, Chiril Moţpan, addressed a request in this respect to the Prosecutor's Office, IPN reports.
At a press briefing, Chiril Moţpan has said that on December 1, the 30-day deadline for the submittal of the report expires. The deputy reiterated that based on the Parliament resolution of October 17, 2019 and the conclusions of the Commission of inquiry for the elucidation of all the circumstances of the banking system looting and of the investigation of the banking fraud, the control over the drawing up of the report is exercised by the Commission on National Security, Defense and Public Order.
Chiril Moţpan has mentioned that MPs are waiting for information on the cause of the stalling of investigation procedures of the banking system’s looting admitted by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office during 2015-2019. Also, collaboration with the special services of other countries, especially with the FBI, was supposed to be intensified for the investigation of the banking fraud and the recovery of the stolen funds. This information is to be found in the report to be submitted by December 1.
The MP also stated that at his initiative, he had a meeting with the Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Chisinau, Martin McDowell. During the meeting, several topics were discussed, including strengthening the collaboration with the US special services in order to investigate the banking fraud. Other discussed subjects were the granting of logistical support for the liquidation of pesticide stocks on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, the situation in the increased security regime area and regional dangers, cooperation against cybercrime, including surveillance and intercepts.
The deputy has reminded about a number of documents addressed to the Commission, according to which, dozens of public persons - teachers, business people, civic activists, journalists, but also simple citizens - have been affected over the last few years by the illegal actions of telephone calls interception. According to the parliamentarian, "the institutions responsible for the defense of human rights did not react in any way, and the services legally empowered to conduct special investigative activities do not rush either to take responsibility for the series of illegal actions".
The National Security, Defense and Public Order Commission has decided to hold new hearings on the enforcement of the Law on special investigative activity on Wednesday, December 4th.
