The deadline for the completion of the works to repair the bridge on the public road M1 on the border with Romania – Leușeni – Chișinău – Dubăsari – the border with Ukraine, which is situated close to Hrușova village, was extended. Last year, the State Road Administration announced that the bridge would be ready in June, but now the time limit was extended until December.

Contacted by IPN for details, Sergiu Gălușcă, head of the Bridges Service of the State Road Administration, said that when the contract for the execution of repair works was signed, the war in Ukraine couldn’t have been predicted. The pandemic also thwarted some of the logistical arrangement, including for the contractor.

“There were some aspects regarding the type of building materials. We recently started to certify these materials based on Eurocodes and the requirements are now stricter. All these aspects overlapped and the contractor ultimately asked for an extension of the time limit. The State Road Administration examined the request as part of a working group, which considered it is reasonable to extend the deadline for the implementation of the project,” stated Sergiu Gălușcă.

According to the State Road Administration, the works on the bridge were about 35% executed.

The repair works are performed by the road company S.A. “Drumuri Criuleni” and were valued at 16.3 million lei. The money was allocated from the Road Fund.

Owing to the works, vehicle traffic does not temporarily have access to the bridge. The drivers crossing the M1 road are urged to obey the road signs placed there and to bypass the area.
