Dead zoo animals must be 'decommissioned' by CMC decision

Zoo animals are considered municipal assets and when they die, they must be “taken out of service” by decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council. Zoo director Alexei Hatatuc says this is an obsolete practice that isn’t applied anywhere in the world anymore. He told Info-Prim Neo that the situation was “ridiculous”. Every year, the zoo administration must get the CMC’s vote for “decommissioning” the dead animals. Alexei Hantatuc says that he has been requesting the procedure to be changed for 2 years already, but without any result. Asked about what happens to the carcasses, Alexei Hantatuc said that some of them are buried and others are used as food for carnivores.
