Dead fish found floating in Nistru

A shoal of dead fish was found floating in the Nistru near Criuleni town. Fishing inspectors ascribed it to large and sudden discharges of water from turbines at the Dubasari hydroelectric station upstream. Iurie Ursu, the head of the Environment Ministry's Pisciculture Division, has told Info-Prim Neo the damage to the natural piscucultural resources was assessed at 90,000 lei. “These uncontrolled discharges of water through the station's turbines are not coordinated with the environmental authorities. Such discharges have existed for five year now and they have caused serious damage to the biologic resources”, said Iurie Ursu. He added he would request the initiation of criminal proceedings over the case.
