The 21st “Days of Creanga” festival this year will take place within a Chisinau-Iasi duplex. The 175th anniversary of the birth of the great writer will be celebrated on February 27 – March 4. The activities will be coordinated by the Ministry of Culture of Moldova and the Literature Museum of Iasi. The Chisinau-based National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” will be the main organizer and moderator, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“A symposium themed “Creanga – today’s people” will be held at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova on February 28. It will be moderated by academician Mihai Cimpoi. A number of book launches will follow. Also on February 28, the Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga” will host a students meeting, where there will be discussed the life and work of the great writer. On February 29, we will cross the Prut and go to Iasi, where there will be held the book fair “Libris”. On March 1, we will go to Ion Creanga’s house, which is the most emotional event of the festival,” said the director of the Library “Ion Creanga” Claudia Balaban. In Chisinau, the events dedicated to the anniversary of the writer will continue until March 4.
“Creanga’s work is a wonder. I often think that God speaks to us through his works. I grew together with Creanga’s characters. My children also grew with them and many generations ahead will grow with the tales of the great writer,” Minister of Culture Boris Focsa said in the opening of the “Days of Creanga”. He handed over diplomas and prizes to the authors who wrote about Creanga’s work.
Attending the event, Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca said that Ion Creanga is an eternal writer. “He has always stayed between me and my children. He is my family’s friend,” he stressed.
The “Days of Creanga” were officially opened at the National Theater “Luceafarul” on February 27, where there was staged a play by Creanga and a book exhibition themed “Creanga – voice of eternal childhood”. The books form part of the collections of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”.
