Day of Heart in the Republic of Moldova announced for Sunday

"How young is your heart?" – this is the title of the International Heart Day celebrated on Sunday, September 24 in the whole world, including the Republic of Moldova. According to sources within the Ministry of Health, the goals of this action is to draw attention of the population on dangers of cardio-vascular diseases, as well as the importance of a healthy way of life. Maladies of the circulatory system are the most common in the world, and each year 17.5 million die because of them. 80% of the cases are registered in countries with small average income. In the Republic of Moldova, cardio-vascular maladies are the main causes of decease, causing 56.3% of deaths. Over 331 thousand persons with circulatory system diseases were registered in 2005 (919 persons out of 10 thousand). This rate is increasing: in 2005 there were 242 cases out of 10 thousand, in 2004 – 184 cases, and in 2000 - 101 cases out of 10 thousand. Doctors warn that 80% of the heart diseases and head strokes can be prevented if the major risk factors, such as physical inactivity (hypodynamics) unhealthy alimentation, and smoking are controlled. At the same time, through regular jogging, at least one time per week, risk of cardiovascular disease decrease by 42%, while a daily 30 minute fast walk reduces risk by 18%. In order to reduce risk factors, medics recommend keeping to a balanced diet with fruits and vegetables, fat free products, vegetal oil, fat free meat, fish and soy. The International Heart Day is organized by the International Heart Federation and is supported by the World Health Organization, UNESCO, UNICEF, and cardiologic societies from the whole world.
