The date of the presidential elections will be fixed next week, Speaker Marian Lupu announced after the March 1 sitting of Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports. “In the February 29 meeting of the AEI Council, we agreed that this subject will not be raised today. Thus, we will return to it in one of the next sittings,” said Marian Lupu. As to the candidate for the presidency, the chairman of the Democratic Party said that the MPs are still holding discussions. The March 2 sitting of the legislature was rescheduled for March 6. “The lawmakers said a series of activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the start of the Nistru war will take place tomorrow. I thus decided to offer the MPs the possibility of taking part in all the planned activities,” said the Head of Parliament. The lawmakers will be free on March 8. For this day they will work on March 7. Two weeks ago, Marian Lupu proposed holding the presidential elections on March 15. The initiative wasn’t supported by the Liberal Party. Last week, the issue could not be put to the vote as the Liberal MPs left the assembly hall. They say a candidate should be first identified and the date of the elections can be set later.
