The local general elections this year will take place on June 14. Parliament passed a bill to this effect on April 3, IPN reports.
The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Vlad Filat said the PLDM suggests that the local elections should be held on June 14 and that the 60-day period needed until the elections should start after Easter.
The leader of the Liberals Mihai Ghimpu said the PL considers the legislation should be amended so that the local general elections could be held on the first Sunday of June, which is on June 7.
Democratic MP Dumitru Diacov said he agrees with Mihai Ghimpu, noting that if the elections are delayed now by a week, in four years they will have to be set based on the date of June 14 and the elections will later be held in August or even September.
Ultimately, Parliament decided that the elections will take place on June 14. The last local general elections were held on June 5, 2011.
