The joint meeting of the Governments of Moldova and Romania will take place in Iasi on March 3, starting at 11am. The place and date were made public following a telephone conversation between the Prime Ministers of the two countries on February 19, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Moldovan Government. Premier Vlad Filat and his Romanian counterpart Mihai Razvan Ungureanu expressed their conviction that the planned joint meeting will give a new impetus to the bilateral cooperation. They said the bilateral relations between the two countries have developed considerably, but there is enough potential for strengthening them further. The press reported earlier that the agenda of the intergovernmental summit will include such issues as the signing of the action plan for implementing the April 2010 statement on the establishment of a strategic partnership between Romania and Moldova for Moldova’s European integration, strengthening of cooperation in the economic sphere, especially in carrying out strategic power interconnection and infrastructure projects, including by building access bridges over the Prut. The idea of a joint intergovernmental meeting was formulated for the first time in the middle of March 2011, during a visit by Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca to Bucharest. Initially, it was expected that the meeting will take place last June and then last November.
