“Romania has a clear agenda in the Republic of Moldova and remains a firm supporter of the Republic of Moldova on its European path. By our actions, we aim to multiply and cement the progress made to far, to encourage the implementation of structural reforms that I hope will generate better living standards and stability for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ionita stated in the official reception held by the Embassy on the occasion of the National Day of Romania on December 1, IPN reports.

The diplomat said December 1 represents the moment when the ideals of freedom, unity and national dignity were achieved. It is now the 99th anniversary of the Great Union. “This year is full of historical events. On November 21, we celebrated together 100 years of the creation of the People’s Council, which ensured in a democratic way Bessarabia’s return to the Motherland on March 27, 1918. This year Romania also celebrated ten years of membership in the EU. December 1 is the day when we look with gratitude to the past and with hope to the future. This year we celebrate together the National Day, before the 100th  anniversary of the Great Union, which is a historical moment of the greatest importance that strengthened Romania’s role of promoter of peace, justice and development,” stated Daniel Ionita.

“Now, 99 years after the Great Union, we can speak with confidence about an active Romania at international level, a member state of the EU and NATO that is profoundly anchored in the realities of the 21st century, which can provide confidence and stability in its geographical region, including in the Republic of Moldova.”

According to the Romanian diplomat, the fact that the relations between Romania and Moldova are special is definite. They develop permanently and there are no areas, political, economic or social, that would not give successful examples and good common practices. Daniel Ionita noted that the Moldovan soldiers who marched in Bucharest at the parade staged on the National Day of Romania were applauded. “Also, we are glad that by involving service members of the Republic of Moldova in renowned military exercises, we contributed to the direct professionalization of the National Army and will continue to develop cooperation in defense,” he stated.

Attending the reception, Prime Minister Pavel Filip addressed a congratulatory message to the Romanian people and thanked the neighboring state for the continuous support offered to the Republic of Moldova unconditionally. He mentioned the provision of school minibuses, renovation of kindergartens and restoration of cultural facilities. “When the Republic of Moldova was in difficulty and external financing was blocked, Romania was the country that lent us €150 million,” stated the Premier.

He also said that the events that took place this year contributed to developing the relations of friendship and cooperation between Moldova and Romania. He mentioned the powerful and positive message of support for Moldova transmitted by Romania at the Eastern Partnership Summit of this November. Pavel Filip assured that the Moldovan authorities will remain focused on the implementation of reforms so as to achieve the European integration objective.
