The Republic of Moldova would be unable to file an application for EU membership during Romania’s presidency of the Council of the EU, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ioniță was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “People’s Council” on 10TV channel.
“First of all, I do not see wish on the part of the Moldovan authorities. Such a wish cannot be taken out of the hat in an inappropriate or sudden way. We do not live in a world of surprises. We live in a world where such decisions should be attentively prepared. I didn’t see preparation on the issue until now and I don’t think such preparation is possible in the short period of time that remained until January 1, 2019,” stated Daniel Ioniță.
According to the diplomat, the Republic of Moldova enters the electoral process and should realize that a large part of the political energy will be devoted to that electoral exercise.
The ambassador assured that Romania will make sure Moldova’s interests are appropriately promoted while his country will be holding the presidency of the Council of the EU and it will keep the quality of “honest broker”.
Romania will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union during January 1 – June 30, 2019.
