The leaving of the European Union by the UK could be a chance for the Republic of Moldova, considers the new Ambassador of Romania in Chisinau Daniel Ionita. He developed the issue in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova station, IPN reports.

“The European Union is organized for 28 states. If the United Kingdom leaves the EU, this means a free place from which the Republic of Moldova can profit,” stated the diplomat.

Daniel Ionita said the European integration is the only way for the Republic of Moldova, but the good relations with the Russian Federation should be kept, noting yet that the Russian troops should not be present in the Transnistrian region. “A good relationship with the EU does not mean bad relations with other states. The presence of foreign troops on Moldova’s territory represents a threat to the security of Romania,” he stated.

The Romanian ambassador noted that the Government of Moldova fulfilled almost all the provisions of the roadmap, but the Romanian loan promised by the official Bucharest last autumn will be released only after a new program is signed with the IMF.

Daniel Ionita assured that Moldova remains a priority for Romania and the Romanian state will continue the projects to support the country.
