The assumption of the European course with increased energy is the chance of the Moldovan people to enjoy prosperity, stability and a safe future, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ioniță was quoted by IPN as saying in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.
The Romanian official noted there was a period when the Republic of Moldova was considered a privileged partner, a champion of the Eastern Partnership. There were also less favorable periods that characterized and probably continue to characterize the relations between Moldova and the European Union.
“I dare to hope that the Republic of Moldova will fully understand its fate and future and that the assumption of the European course with increased energy, not only the orientation to the West, is the chance of the Moldovan people to enjoy prosperity, stability and a safe future,” stated Daniel Ioniță, underlining that Romania does not say this path will be easy, but the benefits that will be ultimately enjoyed will definitely exceed the expectations.
“The problem is not the historical, cultural and geographic affiliation of the Republic of Moldova. We speak about the irreversible connection of Moldova to a system of principles and values that I think should fully characterize this area.”
As to the fact that a parliamentary majority hasn’t been yet formed in the Republic of Moldova after the legislative elections, the ambassador said Romania treats the crises and situations of political instability elsewhere with understanding. The political situation in Moldova is closely connected to the economy. “The economic sector is the first that reacts to a prolonged situation of political instability. (...) I think the Republic of Moldova cannot indulge in political instability for a long period of time,” he stated.
However, Daniel Ioniță noted the country is managed and the state institutions function. There are yet constitutional provisions that should be obeyed.
