The request to increase teachers' salaries by 35% cannot be fulfilled, but more employees in the education system will benefit from targeted aid in 2025, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun stated in the show “Resumé” on RliveTV channel.

According to the minister, the budgetary realities do not allow the teachers' salaries to be increased by 35%, but the teaching and managerial ranks for some of the employees of the system are to be increased, IPN reports.

In 2024, teachers' salaries were raised by 15%. A 9% increase is planned for 2025.

"We had discussions with the trade unions. We still have time, between the first reading and the second readings (of the budget) to see if we can find additional possibilities. We are having discussions with the Ministry of Finance. However, we cannot fully satisfy the request for a 35% increase," said Dan Perciun.

Regarding the protests announced by the education union for December 13, the minister noted that it is the right of every citizen to claim their rights.

"We would all like to double teachers' salaries overnight, but we have a gradual process," said Dan Perciun, noting that the planned increase of 9% is higher than the inflation rate and so it represents a real increase in the purchasing power.

According to the draft state budget law for 2025, which was given a first reading by Parliament, teachers' salaries will be increased by 9%. The salaries of policemen, firefighters and employees of the penitentiary system will also be raised by 9%.
