The Soroca residential block with 30 apartments that was damaged last week as a result of a blast will be pulled down. The decision was taken by the National Commission for Emergencies. At Commission’s meeting, the general director of the Agency for Construction and Territorial Development Vladimir Baldovici said that the building was badly damaged and cannot be repaired. According to Baldovici, the block was shaken by another explosion several years ago. Specialists ascertained that the building put in commission in 1986 was erected with deviations from the construction standards. They will also examine the quality of the building materials used. Vladimir Baldovici says that the block must be demolished to the ground and afterwards they will consider the possibility of building another residential block on the same foundation. He stated that they chose a project from the archives that could be used to raise a new building. They also examined the unfinished buildings in Soroca that are administered by the local authorities. There are two unfinished constructions in the town – a residential block with 176 apartments and another one with 30 apartments. The last is in a deplorable condition and cannot be used. The expenses related to the restoration of the identification and other documents of the inhabitants whose apartments were destroyed in the blast will be covered by the Ministry of Information Development. The victims will be accommodated at the Art College in Soroca at least until spring. The official cause of the explosion has not been made public yet.
