The block in Otaci where the stair of a nine-story apartment building fully collapsed will be demolished. The dwellers do not have access to the other stair that remained intact after the collapse. President Igor Dodon travelled to the scene in the morning of June 20 and discussed with dwellers, IPN reports.

Being present at the scene, the head of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies Mihail Harabagiu said gas or munitions explosions were excluded as versions. Building experts are to find out the exact cause of the collapse. According to preliminary reports, violations were committed when erecting the building. Access to the damaged block is restricted. If need be, the dwellers of the apartments that didn’t collapse will be accompanied by rescuers to their homes to take identification papers and valuable objects.

President Dodon said all the damaged buildings should be inspected, especially after the recent torrential rain.

The administration of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies will compile a list of such buildings. The education institutions will be the first to be examined.

The people told President Dodon that the basement of the bloc was flooded. The walls started to fissure some time earlier, but no one intervened. They fear they will remain without a roof over their heads.

Nine floors of a stair of the block fell down at about 9:20pm on June 19. There are no victims according to the preliminary reports. As many as 46 people, 11 of whom children, were evacuated from the damaged building several hours earlier. Employees of the Police Inspectorate surrounded the high-risk area to secure the people. The emergencies commission was convoked.
