Mayor General of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca ordered taking away the dame that was built illegally across the Byk River, due to which the rate of water flow in the river decreased and the level of water in the lake Ghidighici is going down, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Chisinau City Hall.
The municipality took such a decision after inspecting the accumulation lake Ghidighici, where the three ponds that were illegally built along the Byk River endanger the reservoir.
The owners of the ponds have the use of the land in the area based on a decision of the Vatra Local Council. Several years ago, they stopped cultivating the land and built three ponds there, using them to breed fish. They also illegally built a dam.
The lake Ghidighici was built in 1962, while its barrage in 1964. The water flow corridor hasn’t been repaired since then. Though there is now no danger, a possible accident or destruction of the reservoir’s barrage can lead to the partial flooding of Chisinau municipality and Anenii Noi district, in the water meadow of the Byk.
