Dam break at Zolonceni worsens Moldova's floods

In Criuleni and Ustia the situation has worsened. The stadium in Criuleni town is flooded as waters approach homes. The levels of the Raut river have peaked, causing the dam in Zolotniceni village, Criuleni district, to collapse. As a result, the road linking Zolotniceni to Ustia has been flooded, completely isolating the village from the outside world. The Criuleni Town Hall has called the army for help. In a press release from the Ministry of Defense, it is said that the Moldovan peacekeeping troops stationed in Cocieri, near the Security Zone, reacted to the appeal for human and technical intervention. Peacekeeping battalion 1 is heading a mobile intervention team composed of 30 military personnel and 2 Ural trucks. The soldiers are charged with the task to urgently evacuate the affected population and property which still can be saved from the enraged waters.
