Dairy producers encouraged to go to court

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumakov encourages the national dairy producers to sue the persons who made defamatory statements against them, as regards the use of vegetal fats in making butter and sour cream, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on January 14, Vasile Bumacov said the results of the laboratory examinations haven’t been deciphered correctly. He does not rule out that there are companies that break the existing standards, but things shouldn’t be generalized. Vasile Bumacov said that the Ministry is promoting policies to support the improvement of the production process at the given companies and condemns the disloyal competition. According to him, there are players interested in defaming the national producers, contributing thus to the destabilization and worsening of the state of affairs in ensuring the healthy alimentation of the population. “We are responsible for ensuring the safety of food. That’s why a Food Safety Agency will be created within the Agriculture Ministry,” said the minister. Vasile Bumacov also said that there is equipment in the country that enables to identify the vegetal oils in contents and each body can take samples from producers to establish the quality of the products. On December 26, the chairman of the Center for Competition Protection of Moldova Denis Starus told a news conference that a number of dairy companies of Moldova do not respect the imposed standards and use vegetal fats in making butter and sour cream.
