From April 1, allowances granted to children temporarily left without parental care and those left without parental care who are placed in foster care will be indexed by 13.4%. According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, this number reflects the annual average consumer price index for 2023, per the National Bureau of Statistics.
The allowance will increase from 20 to 23 lei for ordinary days, from 167 to 190 lei on the child’s birthday, from 119 to 135 lei on holidays.
The daily allowance is granted to children enrolled in educational institutions, starting from the fifth grade and until they reach the age of 18.
For 2024, 15.2 million lei was provided in the state budget for the payment of daily allowances for children, of which 2.8 million lei transfers were allocated to the Chisinau Municipal Council and UTA Gagauzia.
In 2024, about 2,900 children placed in various foster care services will benefit from daily allowances.
