Corruption is the greatest evil that prevents the Republic of Moldova from developing, UNDP Resident Representative for Moldova Dafina Gercheva said in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
“The arrest of former Premier Vlad Filat is worrisome, but we cannot comment more until there is no court decision. The Republic of Moldova is not the only country facing this scourge. To combat it, a number of things are needed, first of all political will. You took some steps towards fighting corruption, but these are very small,” said the UNDP Representative for Moldova.
Dafina Gercheva considers that the involvement of the ordinary people is primarily needed to successfully root out corruption. “The people are right when they become angry with politicians because these are corrupt. But why they don’t become angry when they give and offer bribe so as to solve particular problems. The people must realize that they must not give bribe. The young generation should also be educated,” stated the official.
The division of society is another problem identified by Dafina Gercheva in Moldova. “It is the most serious problem of Moldovan society. This hampers political stability and the implementation of reforms. The political instability in Moldova affects a lot the country’s development,” said the UNDP Representative.
