Romania remains a faithful supporter of the Republic of Moldova, especially of its efforts to strengthen democracy and advance on the European path, stated Romania’s Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos visiting Chisinau, IPN reports.

“Our current objective is to support the reforms which Moldova needs to ensure its prosperity and growth; to support these reforms and to see that things are moving forward. In this respect, we believe stability is key in the immediate future”, the Romanian premier told a press conference.

Dacian Ciolos stated that Romania wants to further be the main advocate of Moldova’s European orientation. “We remain an active partner in this group of European action for Moldova, mobilizing other European capitals to keep this project – Moldova’s effort to get closer to the European Union – high on the European agenda. Of course this also depends on how the Moldovan people will decide things should be”.

Moldova’s Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated that Romania is the most consistent supporter of Moldova’s aspiration to become a European and democratic country, and the Strategic Partnership for European Integration stands proof to that. “I have assured Prime Minister Ciolos that Moldova remains firmly committed on the European integration path, which means a consistent implementation of the reforms under the Association Agreement with the European Union”, said the Moldovan premier, adding that Romania’s “expertise and valuable experience essentially facilitate, in crucial moments, the advancement of the European agenda”.

The program of Dacian Ciolos’s visit to Moldova also includes meetings with Speaker Andrian Candu and President Nicolae Timofti. Later today Dacian Ciolos and Pavel Filip will visit a village kindergarten in Cimislia district that was renovated with the support of Romania’s assistance program to modernize education in Moldova.
