The Authorized Economic Agent (AEO) Program, which represents businesses that voluntarily meet the criteria regulated by customs legislation and establish a close cooperative relationship with the customs authorities, will be administrated entirely digitally by the e-AEO system. The system was launched today in a public event.
The Customs Service said in a press release that the businesses that meet the criteria regulated by customs legislation are entitled to facilitated customs procedures by obtaining AEO status. In this context, the e-AEO platform aims to digitize the management of the AEO status and simplify the interaction with the Customs Service.
Lidia Ababii, deputy director of the Customs Service, said that the system will bring benefits to both economic agents and customs officials, helping to improve the quality of services provided, which represents one of the basic pillars of the development and advancement of a state to international standards.
David Anderson, director of the USAID Institutional and Structural Reforms Program in Moldova, pointed out that the launch of the e-AEO system is an important step in the efforts to establish a reliable partnership between the Customs Service and the private sector. This system will reduce times, costs and other resources involved in the AEO authorization process, while being a stable, reliable and transparent system for managing the AEO Program.
Economic agents in the country are to be trained on the application for the AEO Program and the use of the e-AEO system. In this regard, six workshops will be organized by the Customs Service in partnership with the USAID Institutional and Structural Reforms Program in Moldova, in the regions of the country, starting in May 2023.
The e-AEO system will be functional from September 1, 2023. About 150 representatives of the business community participated in the launch event.
