The national Under 21 football team of Moldova closed the qualifying rounds of the 2015 European Championship the third, being outstripped by England and Finland. The Finish team ranked second owing to better goal average, IPN reports.

In the last match, Moldova played against England in Tiraspol. If it had achieved a positive result, it would have secured the second place. But Moldova lost by 0-3 following the goals scored by Berahino (16th and 51st minutes) and Kane (84th minute). Even so, coach Alexandru Curteian is satisfied with the performance of his team in the current qualifying campaign.

“It is a good result. It would have been excellent if we had qualified for the playoff round, but I’m anyway satisfied. We are now not ready to fight against such teams as England,” Alexandru Curteian told a news conference.

Curteian’s contract with the national team expires at the end of this December.
