The Communist Party is today not in the opposition, but in heaven, considers the managing co-chairman of the People’s Party of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Oleinic. The politician said that when he was a Member of Parliament in the Communist opposition, he didn’t have access to all the resources to which they have access now, IPN reports.
“During eight years, we didn’t have access to the mass media. We faced serious problems as regards the promotion of legislative initiatives and laws and of the party’s image. We could only travel to villages to tell the people our views and positions on certain issues. Today the parliamentary opposition is able to express itself freely and has wide access to the mass media,” Alexandru Oleinic said in the public debate “If parliamentary elections took place tomorrow … Image of the government and power perceived by Moldovan society as an index for the country’s political prospects” that was organized by IPN.
He underlined that Moldova has a classical opposition as it manages to cause serious problems to the government. But the extra-parliamentary parties meet with problems because they are not heard by the government. “We make public our stance and opinions, but they are not taken into account. The parties were never invited to discussions centering on acute problems,” said the former MP.
Alexandru Oleinic also said that the government’s image is influenced by the high number of people dissatisfied with the living conditions, prices, low salaries, corruption., etc. “Society perceives the political class by its deeds. The advantages of the government are the access to administrative and financial resources, the mass media, while the disadvantages refer to responsibility,” he stated.
The public debate “If parliamentary elections took place tomorrow … Image of the government and power perceived by Moldovan society as an index for the country’s political prospects” is the 23rd of the series “Development of political culture by public debates” that are organized with the support of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
